Napoleon by Émile Jean-Horace Vernet. Vernet opted to paint with realism. This painting was one I had never seen before. It was on the cover of a 1921 L'Illustration magazine that I tracked down. I was quite lucky to get this issue. This cover painting is very interesting though. It made me want to know more about the artist.
I was able to locate most of Vernet's paintings online, but not this one. Interesting. It is a striking painting. Perhaps not as grandiose as the battle scenes or Napoleon's Farewell at Fontainbleau...but I do like it a lot.

Amazing, I love it! bit late but that one I saw when I was scrolling down and I saw what looked like Jesus Christ and I thought, now why has Carmi got Jesus on a Napoleon Obsession page? And then I saw it again and I felt very embarassed it was like he'd heard me call him Jesus.
