Oh boy. Big mistake. This is not a modern depiction of Napoleon and Josephine as I thought when I posted it a year ago! I have a new blog reader who nicely corrected me via email: Mabel wrote that they are actually Lady Hamilton and Lord Nelson. He's wearing his famous hat! Darn. Does anyone want this print now? I thought it was strange that there were cats and not dogs.....
Two years ago I was wondering who the lady was in this painting of Napoleon on Saint Helena.Mabel knows! "You said you wanted to know who the lady was in that beautiful green painting of Santa Helena. Her name was Fanny Dillon, the devoted wife of general Bertrand, a very close friend of Napoleon."
This blog provides me with answers all the time.

Interesting post as always. Mistakes - I've made a few - particularly on my blog recently!
What an interesting print it is anyway - Nelson is a genuine British hero, Wellington by contrast has always been a minority taste! Incidentally the Brits treated Lady Hamilton shamefully after Nelson's death.
As for Madame Bertrand - for me perhaps the most fascinating person in Napoleon's entourage. How faithful she was is a matter of some conjecture, but she certainly turned Napoleon down!
I love the picture of Lady Hamilton and Nelson. Where can I get the print and who painted it?
Hello Paul,
I bought it on Ebay...6 or 7 years ago.....
It was listed as Napoleon and Josephine...or it would have never come up in my search...
